Generation Studio

PatchWork's Generation Studio is for ad-hoc, one-off generations — no full workflow file, no .nbflow assembly. You type a prompt, pick a model, click generate, get candidates.

Useful when:

  • You want to test a prompt before committing to a full workflow build
  • You need a quick image for a one-off purpose (mockup, social post, reference)
  • You're exploring what a model can do with a specific prompt style
  • You want to generate a reference image to use as an avatar ref later

How to access

Open PatchWork → left sidebar → CREATE section → Generation Studio.

The Studio interface is simpler than the full Projects canvas:

  • Prompt field — type the prompt
  • Model selector — NanoBanana 2 / Veo 3.1 / other configured models
  • Reference image upload — for image-to-image / image-to-video
  • Output count — how many candidates (1-4 typical)
  • Generate button

You don't wire nodes. You don't pick from approval gates. Just prompt → generate → review → save.

When to use Studio vs. a full workflow

Situation Generation Studio Full workflow (.nbflow)
Quick test of a prompt YES overkill
One-off image for a mockup YES overkill
Production content for multiple accounts NO YES
Multi-scene script with consistency NO YES
Batch generation across many prompts NO (manual repetition) YES (use Sheets integration)

Rule of thumb: if you'd post this content, use a full workflow. If you're exploring or testing, use Studio.

Saving Studio outputs

By default, Studio outputs are session-local — close the tab, lose them. To persist:

  1. Click the Save button under a candidate
  2. The image goes into your Assets library (see Assets & Reference Images)
  3. From Assets, you can drag it into any future workflow as a reference

Studio and cost

Each Studio generation costs the same as a generation inside a workflow. There's no discount for being "ad-hoc." Be mindful when iterating on a prompt — 10 quick Studio gens to dial in a prompt can cost as much as a small workflow.

For systematic prompt-tuning, the prompt-tuning skill gives you per-iteration visual judgment and convergence — better signal-to-cost than Studio re-rolls.
