Chapter 4 — PatchWork as a Creative Tool

Chapter 2 taught you how to run a workflow in PatchWork. This chapter is about everything else PatchWork can do — the features that turn it from a workflow runner into a full creative toolkit.

You're here right after Lvl 1-2 variants because these features are what you'll start reaching for as soon as you've made a few videos. They're not advanced — they're the basics of using PatchWork well.

PatchWork features beyond just running a workflow.

What you'll learn

  • Assets and reference images — the panel that holds your reusable avatar refs, product photos, and reference media
  • Generation Studio — one-off image / video gens without building a full workflow
  • Templates — pre-built workflow shapes you can start a new project from
  • Video Editor + AI Label Trick — the in-PatchWork timeline for stitching final MP4s, plus the trick for getting your videos labeled correctly on TikTok

Before this chapter

You should have:

  • Run an existing workflow end-to-end (Chapter 2)
  • Made a Lvl 1 or Lvl 2 variant (Chapter 3)

You'll have seen the PatchWork UI a few times by now. This chapter takes you past "click Run" and into the panels you didn't need on day one.

Sections

  1. Assets and reference images — the library that keeps avatar refs and product shots organized
  2. Generation Studio — ad-hoc image / video gens, no workflow file needed
  3. Templates — pre-built starting points when you want a new workflow shape
  4. Video Editor + AI Label Trick — in-PatchWork timeline, export, the AI Label Trick

Try this

Get hands-on with three PatchWork features outside the standard run loop.

Steps:

  1. Generation Studio: open Studio and generate a single one-off image with a prompt you write yourself. Save it to your Assets library. (Generation Studio)
  2. Assets: open the Assets panel. Tag every image with at least one tag (e.g. test, avatar, product). Find one with a tag-based filter. (Assets and reference images)
  3. Video Editor: take the picked clips from your Chapter 2 workflow, drop them into PatchWork's Video Editor, order them, add the AI Label Trick if it's for TikTok Shop, export. (Video Editor & AI Label Trick)

If you hit:

  • Generation Studio output isn't reaching R2 → check the tunnel + Settings panel (Cache and re-generation)
  • Assets panel feels disorganized after a few uploads → adopt the tagging convention from Assets and reference images
  • AI Label Trick isn't taking on the exported MP4 → re-read the export steps in Video Editor & AI Label Trick. The label flash is a 0.01s frame, sometimes invisible to the eye but TikTok still detects it
  • Video Editor's outputs feel limited (no advanced color grading, motion graphics) → that's by design — see when to use an external editor

When you're ready

Next: Chapter 5 — Quality, Testing & Prompt Tuning. Now that you can drive PatchWork's creative features, the next layer is judging quality — what makes a generation good, when to iterate, and how to use the prompt-tuning skill.
